Getting in

Best conditions

High tide gives the best visibility, and going early beats the crowd that stirs up the sandy bottom. Current inside the park is usually slight, though a strong north wind can push visibility under 10 ft.

Parking

City lot at the foot of Main Street, just north of the ferry landing. Around 30 cars, 4 hour limit.

Protection

Established by city ordinance in 1970 as a marine preserve and sanctuary, and closed to all fishing and harvest under WDFW's Brackett's Landing Shoreline Sanctuary. No boats of any kind inside the park, kayaks and inflatables included. Night diving needs a permit from Parks and Recreation.

Watch for

Diving within 100 yd of the Washington State Ferries landing is illegal, so stay north of the sunken dry dock marking the south boundary, Sunken wooden wrecks and trail structures can snag gear, Iron in some of the sunken features throws off compass readings, Reaching the main features means a surface swim of 100 yd or more at high tide, Water sits between 48 and 52 F all year, so exposure protection is not optional
