Getting in

Shore or boat access, walk in off the sand

Best conditions

The state park beach stays gentle behind a reef 6 miles offshore, and Crandon sits behind a sandbar that calms the surf. Windy days bring the kiteboarders, with rentals and lessons at Crandon's water sports concessions.

Getting through the gate

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is $8 per vehicle for two to eight people, $4 for a single-occupant vehicle or motorcycle, and $2 per pedestrian or cyclist. Day use of No Name Harbor is $8 per boat.

Parking

Crandon Park charges $7 plus tax Monday through Thursday and $10 plus tax Friday through Sunday, with room for just under 3,000 cars. Bill Baggs closes to new cars for a couple of hours once it fills on busy weekends.

Protection

The south end of the island is Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. Bear Cut Preserve in Crandon Park is a designated natural Environment Study Area.
