Best conditions

The park says visibility is best in summer. NOAA reports the inlet mouth stays clear of breaking seas only in flat calm, and it worsens on wind or an ebb tide.

Getting through the gate

$8 per vehicle for two to eight people, $4 for a single-occupant vehicle, $2 for pedestrians and cyclists. The boat ramp is $4 plus tax on top of admission.

Parking

On-site lots. The north side can fill on busy weekends and close to new visitors until space opens.

Florida state park. Spearfishing is not permitted within park boundaries.

Watch for

Tidal current through the inlet is reported to reach 10 knots, with turbulence between the bridge and the jetty tips, Outside flat calm, breaking and confused seas run off the inlet mouth and inside as far as the bridge, worse on an ebb tide, Boat traffic; snorkeling and diving are barred in the boat channel and under the bridge, Shifting shoals and a rocky bottom in spots inside the inlet, No lifeguards; warning flags on the beaches set the swim conditions
