The Seward Chamber of Commerce runs its Silver Salmon Derby on Resurrection Bay each August, and the derby has a shore division for anglers fishing from shore around Resurrection Bay.

Getting through the gate

Camping in the city's waterfront campgrounds runs $25 a night for a tent site up to $70 for a premium RV spot in the mid April to September season, booked through the city's reservation system; the Boulder campground runs first come, first served at its kiosk.

Watch for

The water stays glacially cold; the National Park Service's paddling guide for Resurrection Bay lists hypothermia prevention and spare warm layers as standard gear, Williwaws, sudden violent gusts off the mountains, are called out as particularly severe at Seward in NOAA's Coast Pilot, with winter gusts past 60 knots almost monthly, The bay's tide swings a mean of 8.3 feet and up to nearly 11 on the largest daily tides, so shoreline exposed at low water narrows fast as the tide returns
