Getting in

Shore access, walk in off the sand

Best conditions

Swimming and surfing are barred within 400 feet of the pier, so surfers work the open sand to either side of it.

Getting through the gate

The beach is free on foot. Driving on needs a county pass from March 1 through September 30, $50 a year for county residents, $100 for non-residents, or $10 a day, with reduced accessible rates; no pass is needed the rest of the year.

Parking

Free lot at the county's Ocean Pier Park, 211 spaces with 13 accessible. The A Street ramp beside the park puts vehicles onto the sand and closes nightly at 5 p.m. year-round.

Watch for

Vehicles drive and park on the sand in the marked driving lane at a posted 10 mph, sharing the beach with swimmers, Lifeguards are posted only from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, During turtle nesting season, May 1 to October 31, the vehicle beach gates close from 7:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. Flashlights on the night sand are prohibited by county beach rules year-round
