Getting in

Shore access, walk in off the sand

Best conditions

City rule bars swimming and surfing within 300 feet of the pier, so surfers work the open beach to either side, and boards must stay leashed to a leg in the water.

Getting through the gate

The pier is open 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily and closes early in dangerous weather. Walking on costs $2.50 a day and fishing $5.50, with lower local rates, and the fee covers fishing without a separate state licence. Rod rental runs $15 plus tax.

Parking

The city charges for the pier lot on 1st Street North and its other beach lots Friday through Sunday, on select holidays and during special events through the season, which for 2026 runs March 6 to November 1: $4 for the first two hours and $2 an hour after, capped at $12 a day, card or QR code only. Jacksonville Beach residents with registered plates park free.
