Getting through the gate

Snorkeling here is at the Fort Pickens end of the island, a Gulf Islands National Seashore fee area. A 7-day pass is $25 per vehicle, $20 per motorcycle, or $15 per person on foot or bike (ages 16 and up), and the park takes no cash.

Parking

Parking lot at Langdon Beach inside the Fort Pickens area. Overnight parking is prohibited.

Protection

The Fort Pickens end of Santa Rosa Island lies within Gulf Islands National Seashore, a National Park Service unit.

Rip currents; the NPS rates the Fort Pickens area high risk, and the beach uses a warning flag system, Treacherous currents at the Fort Pickens jetties, where depths drop to about 50 feet, Swimming is banned within 200 feet of the Fort Pickens fishing pier and ferry dock, Purple flags signal dangerous marine life
